All of us computer science graduates learned about operating systems in our college days but most of us did not get the opportunity to relate that learning with real life. Fortunately, GNU/Linux lets us do that and that is exactly what we will do for a few hours in this workshop.
In this session we will peel through the various layers of the GNU/Linux Operating System and understand the various parts of the OS with live hands-on examples. Here are some topics we will look at:
- What is an Operating System
- The OS boot process
- Programs and Libraries
- Going deeper, anatomy of a process
This is not a strictly a programming workshop, but some experience in programming in any language will help. You need a computer with any flavour of a GNU/Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.) installed and root privileges. A basic vegetarian lunch is included in the cost of the subscription. We will go through presentations and examples in the first half and the second half will be reserved for hacking and exploration.
Note our Refund Policy in case you change your mind after you purchase an event ticket.
